Puffers and smaller craft

The the last Clyde built Puffer Spartan, from the Scottish Maritime Museum at Irvine will be attending the River Festival this year.  Spartan was built in 1942 at Kirkintilloch on the Forth & Clyde Canal, and was one of the last boats to be repaired on the canal when she was converted to diesel in 1961 at Kirkintilloch.  Also in attendance is the Wee Spark -

the world's only one third scale Clyde Puffer.  This was the first vessel in 42 years to carry a cargo from Edinburgh to Glasgow by canal - with a return load.

The Scottish Maritime Museum will also have a display of working historic machinery on their stand.

Visiting yachts and cruisers

A flotilla of yachts and motor cruisers are expected to come up the river again, all dressed overall
for a sunny weekend.
Space for visiting boats is now fully subscribed, but applications from classic and historic craft may still be considered.

The newest addition to Ocean Youth Trust Scotland's fleet, Alba Endeavour, will be alongside.  This Challenge 72 former BT Round the World Race boat now provides the opportunity for young people aged 12-24 to experience 'Adventure under Sail'.  Their three modern sail training vessels, based on the west coast, are operated by professional skippers and volunteer mates and will take over 800 young people to sea this year.  Do you want to be one of them?  Come aboard to take part in a free prize draw and to find out more about their voyage programme or how to become a voluntary mate (no experience necessary).  oyt
